FADEAWAY recieves development funding

The screenplay Fadeaway, by Campbell Jefferys, has received funding from the highly competitive Director’s Cut-Gremium of the MOIN Filmförderung in Hamburg.

Involved in the further development of the project are director Caren Wuhrer and the production companies Marlene Film and Tatami Films.

Fadeaway takes a unique perspective on the underdog-sport drama. Former basketball star JARON (35) finds himself in the unexpected role of coach for a deaf basketball team. Together they fight not only for sporting success, but also for respect and self-acceptance in a society that often ignores their differences.

I’m an Australian writer, journalist, lecturer and creative writing teacher. A professional writer for over twenty years, I’ve published ten books, written for newspapers and magazines around the world and twice won the Fiction category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. One of my short stories, ‘Mikelis’, was made into a short film that screened at dozens of festivals through 2016-17. In 2020, I ran the Perth Writers Salon, a five-session writing course, during the Perth Fringe Festival, following on from running the same course in 2019 at the Fellowship of Australian Writers (WA). I also create content for some of the world’s biggest brands, including videos, press materials and creative copy. Apart from writing, I dabble in music and play lots of sport. I played high level basketball as a teenager, represented Australia twice at the World Age Group Championships of Triathlon, and currently play cricket in Hamburg.
