Germany and the rest of Europe are in a state of unrest. The protest group and water charity Modra is repositioned as a political party, with Vilem Kollar as its enigmatic leader. As the climate crisis worsens, inflation rises, violent clashes continue and clean water becomes scarce, Mara Steinbach has to decide where her allegiances lie. Should she side with Modra and secure the future for the people she cares about? Or should she risk everything and try to bring Modra down? As she attempts to take control of her life, all around her, she feels like she’s losing it. And as Germany moves towards an important election, will Modra emerge as the party to take control of the country and lead it into a new era?

I’m an Australian writer, journalist, lecturer and creative writing teacher. A professional writer for over twenty years, I’ve published ten books, written for newspapers and magazines around the world and twice won the Fiction category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. One of my short stories, ‘Mikelis’, was made into a short film that screened at dozens of festivals through 2016-17. In 2020, I ran the Perth Writers Salon, a five-session writing course, during the Perth Fringe Festival, following on from running the same course in 2019 at the Fellowship of Australian Writers (WA). I also create content for some of the world’s biggest brands, including videos, press materials and creative copy. Apart from writing, I dabble in music and play lots of sport. I played high level basketball as a teenager, represented Australia twice at the World Age Group Championships of Triathlon, and currently play cricket in Hamburg.
